What are the three misconceptions of connectors?

21 Aug, 2025

The connecting wire is mainly designed for specific applications. Some consumers may have some misunderstandings about customized connector products, thinking that connector quality risks are high, costs are high, and development time is long. Today, we will explain three misconceptions about connectors.

Misconception 1: The quality risk of customized connectors is too high: Although using new contact designs for customized connectors may lead to unknown issues, customization is not always a brand new connector product. Experienced custom connector manufacturers can reduce the risks associated with developing new connectors by utilizing existing connector components. Reusing connector components for customer specific solutions can meet the requirements of application devices, and the risk is much lower than that associated with new development.

Misconception 2: The development time for customized connectors is too long: Collaborating with connector manufacturers with years of experience in customized solutions can bring many benefits, including reducing development time. The development process of standard products is significantly different from that of customized products. OEM cannot wait for the process of collecting market demand and then modifying and validating concepts through customer feedback. This process may take several months or years to finally determine a concept.

Misconception 3: The price of connectors is too expensive: From the perspective of the unit cost of commercial connectors, customized connector solutions may be higher, but high-density office grade connectors cannot withstand temperature, impact, and vibration, nor can they provide coating thickness. In many cases, they cannot provide the entry protection required by many applications. These issues need to be addressed through further design and processing, which will also increase the production cost of connectors.
